Season of Love : What I'm Loving..

So, as I mentioned in my previous post, Valentines Day is fast approaching. I wanted to share some things I am currently *loving*, and wouldn't mind getting from that special someone (who is non existent). ;)

Hunter Rain Boots

Alex Woo Letter Necklace

Marc Jacobs Cecilia Small Leather Satchel

Gucci Sterling Silver "Toggle Heart" Bracelet

Hope that I manage to score at least one of these items, maybe even as a V-Day gift to myself! ;)

Are you currently "loving" any items this Valentines Day season?

single girl valentines day

As Valentines Day is fast approaching, which I am constantly reminded of every time I enter a store and I am bombarded with everything pink, red, and heart related I can't help but think about relationships (or my lack there of).

Once upon a time, I was 16 and madly in love with a boy. We were going to get married, have beautiful babies and be the perfect couple. We lived happily ever after for 3+ years, and then one thing led to another and my real life fairy tale dissolved. It has now been over a year and a half since I have been boyfriendless, and I often find myself thinking that it's a good thing, and sometimes on my weak days, it's a bad, sad and pathetic thing. Do you really need a relationship to be happy?

I have realized that I am not the type of girl who *has* to have a boyfriend. I talk to guys, meet guys, but unless I really see something working out in the long term, I let it fizzle and keep on going with my life. Call it fear of getting hurt, or being far too picky (which my mother says) but, I just don't feel it's productive to jump into a relationship solely to have a boyfriend. Don't get me wrong, many people are madly in love, and have great success having a serious boyfriend and then another, but I personally don't act this way.

So all this constant talk of Valentines Day and your "sweetheart" I got into thinking about my past relationship, my first and only true love. It's been a while, and he is someone I will always love, but we simply were not meant to be. I have accepted this, and have moved on with my life (accept for those weak days that getchya) but, I can't help but look back and think about our relationship. I've realized that in that time from when I was 16 till now, where I am 21 I have learned and grown so much. I can't help but to think that all the time I spent with him taught me so much, and that's something I have never really thanked him for.

In our relationship I was the perfect girlfriend. I don't mean that in a self centered way, but a bagillion people told me I was on a daily basis. He was my world, I would have done and did do anything for him. You may be thinking, wow, what a nice girl - or wow what a pathetic girl. I think the argument could go either way. But, I did learn a lot from that, and here are a few lessons I think every girl should remember!

1. Don't ever make someone your whole world, because one day when they are gone, you're going to be very lost and alone without a world.
2. Be someone's princess. Too often girls forget we truly are princesses and we deserve to be treated like one!
3. Don't let the relationship become a one way street. Make sure everything is mutual.
4. Live in the moment. I created a fantasy future with my ex, and when that future didn't come true, well I was one destroyed girl.
5. Have fun. Don't spend time arguing and fighting, enjoy each others company.
6. Don't assume the worst, because you will make yourself believe it whether it is true or not!
7. Do not lose your friends over a guy. EVER! There is no excuse for this behavior, you need your girlfriends.
8. Do not put up with being be-littled. You are a princess, remember that!
9. Don't be TOO nice. Guys like a challenge sometimes!
10. Be yourself. You can only put a facade up for so long before people see behind the mask.

I have learned endless amounts of lessons which I will take with me in my next relationship. Did you learn any valuable lessons from an ex love or current love?

This all may seem like crazy talk, but for me - it's what I've learned in my personal experience.

Back to the whole Valentines Day topic, my Valentine this year will be one of my best girlfranns M! I am super excited to celebrate being single with her, and embracing the day, rather then wearing black and turning to my main men Ben and Jerry!

Hope you have a great V-Day if you have a love, and if you don't celebrate the love of friendship!

shoe obsesh

So, if you haven't noticed from my blog title - the "sole" is indeed referring to shoes. I have a love, make that obsession for shoes. It seems as though whenever I go to the store I gravitate right to the shoe section and set my eyes on the beautiful shoes. I usually do not wear flats, I owned one pair and I wore them once and never again! But I figure now that I am going to be entering the "real world" I should at least attempt them. I don't think it's realistic to be teaching in 5 inch heels *sigh*. Therefore, as a Christmas present I received my very first pair of Tory Burch Reva Flats. Yes, you may be gasping that I JUST finally got a pair of these beloved flats - but like I said, flats and I were not friends. Long story short, I fell in love with these shoes.

You can find them at Bloomingdales, Nordstrom, Saks, ect.

So, if you already do not own these shoes, trust me they are worth the investment! Not only are the super cute, and stylish, they are comfy too!

about me

My name is Katy, I am a twenty something from the great state of New Jersey. I am a proud sister of Zeta Tau Alpha, and previously was the president. Joining a sorority was the best decision I ever made, and I thank God everyday for letting me be a part of something so amazing! I am your typical girly girl with a love for all things pink. Although I am from New Jersey, and wouldn't trade that for the world - most people tell me I belong in the South. I have a love for all things preppy, dream about shooting a gun, die hard conservative and cannot leave the house without big hair.

I am a future teacher, and have a passion for politics. I have a love for shopping, especially shoes and bags. My mother doesn't trust me to be left alone in either sections while I am shopping because I am known to do damage. I die over shoes, and the fabulousness of them. I love to laugh, and think laughing is essential to life. I try my best to always smile, even when it seems to be pouring on me. I live for my friends and my family. I am truly blessed to have such wonderful people in my life. I have a strong faith, and believe that everything happens for a reason, because God has a master plan for all of us. I am newly in my twenties, and getting ready to graduate college and make my way to the "real world". Follow along on my journey which always has unexpected twists and turns, but I would not trade it for the world!

New Year, New Me

It's really hard to believe that 2011 is here. I remember being in 6th grade and sitting around with my friends pondering life, and saying "Oh in 2007 we will graduate high school and wow in 2011 we will be graduating college". I NEVER thought I'd actually see the day of 2011. It seemed so far away. And as I came to college, it seemed as though the 4 years would take a lifetime to pass by. But, I was very wrong. Seems like just yesterday I was moving into the dorms, meeting new friends, rushing ZTA and so on. It's crazy how when you look back how much time has passed and how much time has changed us (hopefully for the better).

I feel as though I have been able to grow a lot through college experiencing friendships that didn't make it, the heartbreak I was sure had ended my world, family issues, the responsibility of being president of my sorority, but overall becoming the 21 year old that I am today.

I have great hope for 2011, and really want to make this year about me. 2010 was consumed by school and the sorority. I wouldn't trade that year for anything, but for a year I was unable to make myself a priority - my life was based upon keeping 50 girls happy, and keep the drama to a minimum. So, my promise to myself is to make 2011 about me.

I am going to worry about myself, have fun, and enjoy my last months with my best friends in college! I want to get myself into a routine going to the gym, and doing things that benefit me! Call me selfish - but sometimes we all need a little "me" time!

I look forward to sharing my new year which as my life always is, should be filled with some pretty comical stuff!

reminiscing 2010

I can't believe that the year 2010 is soon ending.. where did the time go?
When I look back on the past year, I honestly see a year of chaos and drama. This is probably because I recently just finished up being President of my sorority. By the end of my one year term, I was ready to hand the position over. Don't get me wrong, it was one of the most amazing experiences - but it was drama and stress filled. I spent so many nights up late crying, or dealing with never ending drama. I dealt with many ups and downs throughout the year, and when I think back - I realize this year was a huge learning experience for me. I really now can look back and thank God for giving me this year because it challenged me to be a better person, and it helped me grow up. Sometimes it's hard to see the sun through the constant rain clouds, but I think I'm starting to see the sun shine through, and hoping that 2011 brings lots of happiness my way!

Here are some of my highs & lows of the year..

highs
- Being elected the President of my sorority. It was one of the most amazing, and rewarding experiences of my life.
- I had the honor of being chosen as the opening speaker for my sororities National Convention in New Orleans - I was asked by the National President! It was a huge honor, and an amazing experience I will never forget. Giving a speech in front of 1,000 people
- Being elected Senior Class Secretary
- Moving into a house with my 5 best friends / pledge sisters. Since the time we started pledging, we talked about living together senior year all 6 of us and it became an actual reality. I am so thankful and loving everyday of it!
-

lows
- The drama that came along with being President. I spent many nights crying over drama and girls being stupid.
- Not passing the Praxis, forcing me to stay in school one extra semester and delay student teaching to September.
- After being in agony for a month, finally figuring out that I have a herniated disk.
- My relationship with one of my really good friends fizzling and basically ending.

& here are some of my hopes..

hopes for the new year
- enjoying the last real semester at college with my friends
- trying to work on learning how to relax, because it is something I seem unable to do
- run a 5k race, it's something I've been wanting to do!
- genuinely have a good, positive, happy year!
- keep in touch with all my friends after graduation - they mean the world to me!
- getting a job after I graduate
-potentially meeting a nice guy (yeah, right!)
- successfully passing the Praxis (fingers crossed)
- keep blogging :)

Hope you all had a great 2010, and I hope that 2011 is even better for everyone!!
